Full Circle Arts is a family-owned Flow-Arts company based in Asheville, NC.
It was started in the summer of 2013 by River and Julia McDowell and has been to many amazing events incl: Lake Eden Arts Festival, LAAFF, 3 Days of Light, Kinection Campout, Culturefest, Lovevolution Gathering, Zen Awakening Festival, and many more.
We are dedicated to designing, creating, and providing an array of quality flow tools such as Hula hoops, Poi, Flow/Contact Staffs, and Rhythm Sticks. We also specialize in the design and creation of unique clothing and apparel with our Perpetual Muse line.
Being kind to the earth and in tune with our natural world is very important to us, therefore a large portion of our products are made from recycled and upcycled materials (cloth, bicycle tire tubes, etc.).
We also offer classes and workshops for all different ages and skill levels.
Flow arts performance, workshops & Instruction
Julia & River McDowel:
The "FLOW ZONE": An amazing ‘Interactive Kinetic Art Installation’ like no other...
Our "Flow Zone" is a wonderful way to introduce people to the dance of flow-arts. It also provides an area for the already growing number of people involved in the flow arts to converge and connect with each other.
We provide an array of flow-tools (Hoops, Staff, Poi, and Rhythm Sticks) for people to come try out at no cost to them and at their own leisure. We also provide approachable, and fun on the spot instruction for beginners for all of our flow-tools if they desire.
Offering 2 workshops:
Intro to Poi:
This is a workshop for the novice poi spinner. We will be covering basic holding techniques, basic planes of spinning, same time and split time, and a couple of tricks (butterfly/thread the needle and 2 & 3 beat weaves)
Staff: A Movement Art-Form
I am happy to share this solid meditative, and focused approach to practicing staff. I have developed a movement art-form for staff that will take you through many basic and expert movements in a specific order (similar to martial arts or yoga).
By following this Form it will enhance your flow, your energy and give you more to work/play with no matter what level you are at. We will be using a variety of both (on body) Contact and (off body in hand) Flow style movements.
My style of teaching is a hands-on learning experience designed to meet each person where they are in their growth with flow arts. I pride myself on creating a fun, moderately paced, yet engaging learning experience that you can step away from feeling satisfied, excited about and have good material to add into your staff practice. Bring your own staff if you can, but I will have a few extra if you don’t.
